Job Summary: The Senior Manager Product Design will lead and manage the successful operation of Softlines vertical categories for the Marvel and Lucasfilm franchises. This role reports to the Director of Product Design, and leads an assigned internal design team. Together, the team delivers trend-right consumer centric product lines that feature market-leading innovation and great price/value for each tier of Apparel, Accessories & Home categories by monitoring and maintaining quality of assigned product categories through story, color, materials, form and function of products. This role Manages the internal design team to ensure the highest quality, consumer focused, trend-right product lines across all channels of distribution (flex business models, vertical and wholesale) that build brand equity and meet financial targets. Responsibilities:

  • Manage an internal team to Concept, design, sketch, prototype (including managing art-to-product, sample creation, fit sessions where applicable) and deliver trend-right consumer centric product lines that feature market-leading innovation and great price/value for each tier of the value pyramid for our Apparel, Accessories & Home categories.
  • Manage the vertical design team in managing multiple external vendors to develop product concepts against strategic design vision for the overall product or assortment mix to deliver trend-right consumer-centric product lines and accomplish product and packaging approvals ensuring quality.
  • Develop the best design talent through immediate feedback on performance and weekly touch bases to review deliverables, regular coaching
  • In partnership with Execution leadership, set the design strategies for each season
  • Lead the design team in trend POVs for softlines in partnership with creative and leadership that support our target demographics and infuse franchise specific filters for each quarter and manage the teams deadline dates, deliverables & milestone meetings
  • Oversee the design team to develop consumer centric product lines that are trend right, and deliver market-leading innovation.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (Creative Design, Brand Merchandising, Sourcing and Tech Design, BERGs, Legal, Business Affairs, DE&I teams, Cultural Consultants) and external partners (Studios & WDI) to design and approve all products
  • Promote conversation with Brand merchandising teams to create product lines that support the main projects
  • Collaborate with the greater product design and creative teams to guide up-front trends, overall creative direction and identify future areas of growth within the franchise and across product categories, including the preparation of custom design tools and retail pitches to differentiate by category
  • Must have the ability to define trends and filter for brand relevance while monitoring competitors, product innovation and market dynamics
  • Handle multiple design projects, running simultaneously with varying levels of complexity Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in related field (e.g. industrial design, toy design, fashion design) or equivalent work experience
    • 6+ years of relevant experience
    • Extensive knowledge in softlines categories (raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing)
    • Prior experience managing: a product design team in the creation of consumer-led items from concept through activation and managing up to senior leaders as well as across with peers and partners.
    • Experience being a bridge between execution and strategy; to translate strategy into action
    • Experience taking ownership of results
    • Experience as a day-to-day decision maker
    • Experience influencing main partners and stakeholders
    • Able to filter through complex issues, find solutions, gain support and implement change
    • Strong product design skills (e.g. 3D product design, technical design, sketching, creative application and manipulation of art, final mechanical art, fabric and trim identification)
