The Process Engineering Manager manages successful completion of projects within boundaries of quality, time, and budget supporting product manufacturing efforts. Based on significant technical expertise, reviews, and approves complex design concepts. Manages and provides technical direction to reporting disciplined engineering staff members and external contracted engineering resources based upon significant technical expertise. Recognized as an expert by peers and other personnel within the business. Displays a general understanding of theories/practices of a variety of engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads a diversified engineering team in support of a fast paced CDMO facility.
  • Leads and provides technical direction on process equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification.
  • Works closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Validation, Facilities and Site Management to execute projects without impeding production.
  • Provides technical evaluation and input for Quality Assurance initiatives.
  • Understands and provides direction on building code, GMP clean-room design, automation infrastructure design and general site related projects.
  • Supports the generation of structured work-plans and consistently works to improve department workflow and standards.
  • Evaluates "fit for function" for new projects / processes and develops estimates for any required modifications or additional equipment loads.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, transparency.
  • Safeguard the team from outside distractions and obstacles to ensure key milestones and deliverables at met.
  • Manages, identifies, hires, develops, and recognizes staff; the team may include senior level engineers and technicians.
  • Monitors all project expenditures, cost, and schedule tracking.
  • Responsible for policy setting and defining procedures for the staff in accomplishing and documenting projects.
  • Provides input on overall engineering department policy.
  • Approves protocols, reports, support documentation (engineering change requests and GMP documentation) to secure project release, execution, and closure.

    Key Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in relevant Engineering field or related.
    • Advanced Experience in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of industry standards, pressure vessels, and ASME BPE.
    • Embraces a culture of sharing knowledge and training others.
    • Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams.
    • Solid understanding of inter-department maintenance operations.
    • Proficient at driving methods of change in achieving productivity improvement goals
    • Mature business acumen demonstrated by understanding the role maintenance plays in Lonza's asset management business model
    • Familiar with CMMS systems, preferably SAP Plant Maintenance module.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and cGxP guiding work practices and principle

      The full-time base annual salary for this position is expected to range between $137,000.00 and $160,000.00 annually. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the location of the successful candidate, qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and job-related knowledge.
